Not only can I smash eggs in my pockets, but thermometers for taking the temperature of calves and stuff have a short life. I put them in my pocket and then they are history. Or shards.

I'm retired (recently) and am naturally kind of a hermit, so I often don't change out of my long nightshirt and robe. I gather eggs in this attire and sometimes I want to put a particular egg "someplace special" until I get them all into the house. Duck eggs separate from chicken eggs, a new layer's egg with a blood streak on it, a messy egg because somebody didn't wipe her feet.

Egg basket, left robe pocket, right robe pocket, night-shirt breast pocket, only thing left is the night-shirt hem. But bending over allows the shirt pocket egg to fall on the ground. When I use the hem of my shirt to hold "special" eggs while carrying the egg basket, I ALWAYS forget any eggs I have tucked in robe pockets.

Only to remember them upon #1- sitting in a chair on the deck with my cup of coffee in one hand, not pulling my long robe away as I sat, and hearing the egg smash. #2- finding an egg in the robe pocket as I push dirty clothes into the front-loading washer. Hopefully before it hits the edge of the tub.

Excellent idea for a thread SFG!

DH's carharts are my winter wear to the coop. Top breast pocket holds about 3 eggs--nice flap with velcro there to hold em in place while I bend over; and then I have to go for the right hand pocket which if I have to bend a knee to check lower nest boxes yet....that pocket gets the' ole muffin top squishing on to the thigh egg sandwich maneuver which = yolky pocket.

So far happened 2 times.

Reason number #67 to lose the Muffin Top. LOL.

Ya pick up a random egg in the morning, stick it in a pocket, do some chicken chores, move a feed bag...dag nabbit, that feed bag does it every time, as does leaning over with a shovel turning the compost. The worst was the large, loose knit sweater I use for a robe over my nightgown. I found a morning egg, stuck it in my pocket, walked over to the fish pond, bent over to do something in the pond and the knee it the egg. Squish, all over the cable knit and nightie...eeewww. Egg and loose cable knit are not a good combo.

Hmmm... I have gone out to the coop in my pj's. But it was summer and my girls weren't laying yet then!

Bogtown I had always tried to be so careful of those eggs that go in my pockets by MY waist when I am bending over!!! I am sure I look funny wallering around trying to get the bottom nest eggs and not crack to ones already in my pockets!!!

Knee and squishes!!!

Ah yes. once I put a quail egg in my pocket and then I forgot about it and then I was suddenly reminded of it while moving a large piece of plywood and I felt something wet on my thigh...

Too funny! My chooks live in a converted stall in the barn. I usually stuff their eggs in my jacket pocket whenever I go to collect. There is a 1/2 inch rubber padding over the concrete floor. It's about the consistency of a steel belted tire. When I dropped an egg from the nesting box it actually bounced.
