who has guinea fowl

Before getting guineas you should go see and HEAR some in person. I find them interesting and amusing to watch, but the noise they make takes a lot to get used to. It still sometimes gets annoying to me.

And, as with all animals in proximity with small children, closely monitor your children around your guineas. Some are more agreeable than others. My 5-year-old boy once got attacked by my 6-month-old guinea cock. My boy was just playing in his sandbox and the bird came over to him and pecked him repeatedly in the face.

We like them to, sometimes they are soooooo dumb you wonder how they ever lived in the wild. Great bug eaters. A friend of ours made a comment one time about them running back and forth along a fence. She said with guineas "they are always on the wrong side of the fence"

i have them and they are with my chickens. they are really mean and harass my chickens. they can fly out and free range and come back into the coop at night. i wish they would stay out. other than that, i really like them. just wish they did not act so ugly to the poor chickens!!

It must depend on the guineas. I've had guineas and chickens together for over 4 years with no problems. Except for sleeping and eating in the same coop, the guineas keep to themselves. Even when I add a new chicken, they totally ignore the new bird (this isn't true if the new bird is a guinea). They do take a long time to learn anything and need to be retrained occasionally.

Can you sex them when they are about a week or so old? I would like 2-3 females , no roos, I heard they can run the chicken roos ragged. I don't want any trouble like that.
