Who has read The Book of the Dun Cow? This is an amazing fantasy story with chickens as the main characters...a great plot (light vs. darkness, like Lord of the Rings), characters who change and grow and learn to depend on each other...violent in some parts, so younger kids might not want to go for it.
It sounds odd, but you have to read it this summer! You will be hooked! And it's a trilogy so you really might be hooked.
