Who Has Used or Uses "Nite Guard"??

I have four of them on all four sides of my coop/run. No signs of any predator attempting to get in, but the girls have only been in their new home for about 5 weeks or so. But I do live way out in the woods and there are many predators here, including bobcats and coyotes. I have to take them off every morning and put them in direct sunlight since the coop/run doesn't get much direct sun during the day to recharge the solar panels, but it's well worth it for the peace of mind. I bought mine on Ebay.

It is my understanding that most animals don't get spooked by red light. As a hunter I have been using a red light to enter the woods while still dark. The red light is supposed to not spook deer or other game animals. I wonder if my hunting light is a gimmick or if this "Nite Guard" is a gimmick?

It's my understanding that it's the flashing of the red light that helps deter predators, not just the red light itself. And typical "game animals" aren't the predators you have to worry about around chickens too terribly much, so maybe the red light doesn't affect them anyway. Dunno though

Maybe my idea of game animals- deer, turkey, quail, rabbit, dove- is different than your idea of game animals.

Gimmick or not, the raccoon and opossum predation of my fish ponds has totally stopped. It used to be a nightly thing, with the coons tearing up the aquatic plants and usually getting at least one of my large goldfish (after they decimated the koi, first). Now I don't even see wet pawprints on the retaining walls around the two ponds.

So I think the 3 Nite Guard lights are also "handling" the issue for the chickens.

I know someone who used Nite Guard, and once the critters in their area got used to it, they came back and started killing chickens again.

I'm glad it is working for a lot of you, but I will rely on my Great Pyrenees dogs and good fences.

They claim it works on deer and other non predator type animals. I'm definitely not saying it doesn't work. But if it does work than me walking through the woods at night with my red led flashlight moving back and forth will appear as if it was flashing and spook away game. Yes....no..... not sure? We may never know for sure

Tom, were you chickens in an enclosed run or free-ranging at the time?

They were in the coop with the chicken door open. One of the Nite Guard lights was right next to the door. The coon climbed up the ramp, right pass the light. This happened an hour after it got dark. I usually lock them all up before going out, but i thought I would be back before night fall. My fault for trusting the Nite Guard to keep the coon out.
