Who Has Vertigo?

I never had the nausea part. I always knew when it was coming,I would fall asleep at night and unless the alarm was set I would sleep for up to 18 hrs straight through and I would start having falling dreams. I have never had an episode of vertigo start while I was awake. I would go to bed fine and wake up with vertigo. At my worst time with it, the episode had lasted almost a month and was so bad that if I walked my vision would jump. It was like viewing the room thru the old time movies at super high speed. I couldn't not dress or even feed myself. You become very depressed very quick.

I've had vertigo, with something called Ramsey Hunt Syndrome, which is caused by shingles. It was so bad I fell several times, and had some sessions of marathon vomiting. I puked every 10 minutes for 2 hours, almost went to the hospital.

Now I have some occasional, mild vertigo. I don't fall, I don't puke, I just feel light headed and awful. I feel nauseated, and I turn my head and it feels like it is going to keep spinning. It seems to be a new PMS symptom for me, and a head cold symptom. Gotta love the old body. Mine is definitely an inner ear issue, as I also have hearing loss.

Having studied Meniere's, you have my utmost sympathy. As do any chronic vertigo sufferers.

A couple of weeks ago, I began waking up at 3:30 AM (like clockwork) and when I opened my eyes, the room, bed and everything around me would be spinning. It got even worse as I changed my head positions from left to right while laying in the bed. I would wake up with nausea and it felt like I had to vomit. I would literally use the wall to balance myself because I was so dizzy. I had no idea what was going on. I'm not a sick person, so I was in a panic. The dizziness would subside around 8:00AM. I would still get dizzy spells while sitting at work. So, finally, I couldn't take it anymore and decided to make an appointment to the doctor. Well I had to find a doctor because the only doctor I have is my female doctor and when I called her and told her about the problems, she suggested that this would be the time to find a doctor who could help me. So, I found a doctor and saw the doctor. Well, she isn't sure what is wrong with me, although she did say that I had fluid in my right ear. She asked me did I have sinus issues and I do. Perfumes and smells bother my sinuses as well as cigarette smoke. Well I did lab work this morning and now it's a waiting game. However, she did prescribe Meclizine 25 mg tabs - 3 x' daily. She said that it's for motion sickness) I have been taking this med since Monday and I have not had any dizzy spells. I have been researching Vertigo and I think this is what I may have. I had a few co-workers that had Vertigo and the symptoms sound alike. So everyone's stories is very interesting as I learn more and more about Vertigo. Thanks for posting everyone.

Milk can be a cause - my FIL had vertigo attacks for his entire life, getting worse as he got older. Dizziness, nausea, vomiting, the works. They finally discovered it was triggered by milk. He has to be really careful eating out, or eating processed food, because even a small amount of raw milk will send him into a major spell.

On the bright side, at 82, he at last doesn't have to worry about being alone when an attack comes!

I have had occasional vertigo attacks, usually a few hours to a couple of days.

I teach dance and there are certain tactics we use to avoid/manage dizziness when doing turns and spins that are helpful in managing the symptoms... I can use those to manage the side effects when I'm having a bout, allows me to walk and move without falling all over. I've taught the same method to several people with vertigo and it has allowed them to do the same. it's a bit of a long description, but if anyone wants it posted, let me know and I'll post it in the morning.

I have meneire's as well. meclizine is only supposed to be taken occasionally, so you know, as my dr. said it will trick your mind into thinking you need it for life even just to walk. So now I use it sparingly...when i have attacks.

i've been having vertigo lately and I do notice my ears feel full. It's aweful. I feel for everyone here.

When I read the instructions, it said to take "as needed", so I have not been taking it 3 x's a day. I don't like taking medication and haven't been on meds for about 15 years, so I'm leary about putting drugs in my system but this time, I have to. I plan on only taking this when I have a dizzy spell.

I've had vertigo off and on since I was very young. Mostly it was due to allergies and ear infections and migraines.
As I've gotten older it has become more tolerable but it still sucks

I have learned that going to a chiropractor does help. He snaps my neck from time to time and it helps to release all that extra fluid. I know it doesn't work for everyone, especially those with underlying conditions, but it's an option for those of you who haven't tried it yet.

I'm beginning to think that "IF" on my next doctor's visit (and after all lab results are back), my doctor confirms that I have Vertigo, I am sure that it is caused by allergies stemming from being around people who spray an entire bottle of perfume (fumes and scents) on them and from smoke that I inhale when trying to get away from smokers. A good chiropractor visit would be good for anyone I would think. I'm sure up to trying it.
