Who here is into Photography?

Great photography is more than understanding Sunny 16 or lighting ratios.

My favorite wedding-portrait-infant photographer has such a creative eye, creative edits, captures the feelings & emotions etc. Knew little more than where the shutter button was located.

My favorite wildflower photographer, uses a nice point and shoot.

Yes it really helps to know the hows and whys, but what is behind the camera is really the most important thing.

The Scott Kelby handbook series is not the same as the video editing course and is $35.99 for all three books.

As I have regularly suggested to people with a new camera, the best thing you can do is learn a section at a time in your cameras manual. I use Canons and always suggest they have the best how to book for each camera. Scott Kelby's book series is also a great way to learn how to use the camera in different creative ways.

Great shots Goat_Walker!
I really liked the second one on your first post. It's like you can really caught the duck's perspective.

Definitely a good series to own. I have checked them out from the library several times. I took a class in college, film. I would love to take one that focuses more on digital. However, I do read websites.

I love photography! Someone should set up a "photography interest forum" here to share pics of our chics and wildlife. I live a Canon 50D upgraded from a Rebel a couple of years ago. I am not very good, but learning and always shoot in manual. Understanding Exposure is a great book and I also have a few from Kelby. I am still trying to learn Photoshop. Here are a few photos...

One of the cheapest and most effective ways to learn is through Youtube! I recently got hired on at a pro studio here and before that I was freelancing. I hadn't shot in studio in two years and I just went on youtube, looked up some tutorials and gave myself a refresher! Worked like a charm

Classes are good fun too. I haven't taken any classes besides my college/uni but I have a good friend who is an art photographer and he does some wonderful courses and seminars.

For photoshop youtube is nice but there are some books I believe called Classroom in a Book. I used one in school for learning on CS2. If they have them for the later versions that would be handy. Mine was about $70.00 Canadian and it came with a disc with before and after photos and component photos so there would be an exercise... and you'd look at the end photo, then you'd take the component photos and try to copy the instructions to make it as much like the end photo as you could. Doing this with a classroom full of photo students is especially fun because you when someone ends up with something way out in left field it's super funny. I've done that a few times!

Oh and to the fellow asking about formal training. I attended college at NSCC in Halifax/Dartmouth and took photography for two years. I learned lots from a wonderful art photographer friend. I've freelanced for two years and now work in a pro studio in my hometown. I shoot weddings, events, portraits, landscapes and fine art. I did a lot of personal art work while backpacking. I am planning on transferring my credits from my partial history degree at MUN, my photography degree/diploma and going for my fine arts degree at NSCAD. I also am working on an art project and would like to have a show sometime this year.

No formal training other than a semester of black and white photo, but I have an uncle who does portrait photography on the side and I have learned a lot from him. The rest I learn from reading or playing with the camera!

Here are a few updated pictures of my own. I don't really remember what I had posted before, so I apologize if I repeat anything!
