Thanks guys, yes I guess my language did indicate I thought it was from here. I though because people here read alot on the internet they might have seen it posted some where else on the internet.
I understand this guy really believed it was correct, and it even might be. But when I asked him why he was doing what he was doing... going from chick start ( which yes they need) to Layer Pellets at 16% to Mini Pellets at 17%, to layer pellets at 17%.... He was like "it" is what your suppose to do. Also with the proportion of grit. I just have never ever heard this, and thought everyone hear might have seen this kind of info posted somewhere else.... thanks for the feed back.

There's a new livestock/pet supply & feed store nearby and I am amazed at what they tell their customers. I wish they would just say "not sure" but they don't.
e.g. - I asked if they carried any scratch without oats because my girls don't like oats. The saleswoman suggested layer pellets instead!
- I was looking for chick starter and she had never heard of it
- I wondered if they sold oyster shell (I grind my own, actually) and she said no, but they had grit if I'd like that instead
- etc.

This is a franchise. Luckily, most customers already know what they want so I hope not too many are being told the wrong information.

I don't understand what your saying. The feedstore sells both a 16% and 17% pellet? I'm not sure the point of that unless they just carry 2 brands. In that case it wouldn't matter which you feed. 1% protein will have no noticeable impact. I don't know what mini pellets are.

I actually had the owner of my local feed store try to sell me laying crumbles for my new chicks because he was out of starter-grower. He said to me, " Just go ahead and buy laying crumbles. It's the same thing as chick starter"!!!! I let him know immediately what would happen if I fed my chicks laying crumbles and NO... they were not the same. He just looked at me and walked away. I wonder how many folks swallowed this mis info that buy feed from him! Just a reminder, folks. Know your feed requirements for whatever age your chickens are. No one else is going to do it for you, not even those that are supposed to know their own products!

I believe virtually nothing ANY corporation tries to tell me. That goes from Purina to Scott's fertilizers and any and all corporations. The bottom line is ALL that matters to them. It's all business and just like the casinos they do nothing unless it makes them lots of money. In my opinion Scotts corp. is doing more harm to the environment than any other corporation in the world.

True chicks need smaller food and hens need calcium from some source. These corporations prey upon our desire to do good by our pets/livestock. It also suits them that most people in modern USA are totally ignorant about keeping livestock/chickens. They have a easy sell. Common sense goes a long ways, don't believe everything you read!
