Who is hatching on Nov. 14???

Pips, pips and more pips!!!! My Mottled Cochin bantam eggs are due Thursday and we have pips galore! Yay!!!! Even one of the eggs I'd put in a separate container as a "bad" egg has pipped! Yay!!!!

Well my little serama X cochin is out of his shell - with help. His pip hadn't grown since yesterday so I chipped away a little of it. This poor baby must be more cochin than serama - he couldn't move if he wanted to he was so big for the egg. (He is actually really little - but compared to the egg...)

He is pretty weak and won't open his eyes but is resting comfortably in the hatcher. It was so cute when he stretched his legs out super long like he'd been waiting to do that for days.

I just hope he survives. Some of his half-siblings at a friends house have hatched and died a day later.

They trickle in from 6-8:30, as their parents go to work. It's so cute to see how excited they are to check on the babies and show their parents.

There are always two teachers in the classroom, so I snuck in to check our email account and update you guys!

I hope your little Serama is okay! Any progress?

No pips yet, but it was only day 18 last nite. Not getting stressed...

So glad for all of you who have pips and peeps and chicks. Ren, I know your preschool kids must be so excited this morning. Good luck!

My little serama seems to be stronger this afternoon. I had to put him in a little tote inside the brooder with my chicks that are 1 week old. I was gonna leave him in the incubator to dry off today but he had already flopped into one of the remaining rows of the turner and got stuck.

He is SO TINY! I know my chicks grew in the first week but they are gargantuan compared to this guy. He is about half the length of my thumb. His coloring is gorgeous - all over silver (not blue) with a buttery yellow underbelly and wingtips. His mom is mottled black and white - but not sure about dad. He has light feathering on his legs from his cochin dad but his tail already has a knob sticking straight up - definately serama.

Apparently his name is Edward according to my 14 year old - but we can call him Ed.

I will post a picture when my oldest gets home from work with her camera.
