Yes a Boy.
When you crossed your rooster with your barred hens (example - your Cuckoo Maran) the offspring will be sex-linked with the males being Black with a White spot on there head and females solid Black and no spot on there head.
Chris
I hate to be a pain, Chris, but I'm confused now. I read the first post on the sex link thread and specifically the section on black sex links. It says to NOT use white birds in the cross because they all turn out with a white head. I'm not doubting your expertise on the sex links but can you explain how you know it's a sex link?
Thanks!!
Not a problem.
Your bird isn't White (or at least solid white) he is a Columbian pattern as in a Columbian Rock, Light Sussex, or a Columbian Wyandotte.
He (your rooster) is Silver based and acts differently than White when used in a sex-link breeding.
So when your rooster is bred to your Barred Rock and Cuckoo Marans you will get Black sex-links, now the reason I said the Cuckoo Marans was the mother and not the Barred Rock is because the chick in question has slight feathering of the shanks (legs) and Barred Rocks dont have featherd shanks.
I hope the helps..
Chris
