Who is pipping and waiting right now??

Don't touch it... if there's blood, then he's not "fully cooked" yet.

It can take HOURS between pips and hatches... days even. As long as you still see movement, it's ok. And if there's a hole in the membrane so it can get fresh air, then you're fine.

(I have one egg left in the hatcher that hasn't pipped yet... out of 15 eggs... travelled over 3000 miles to get here... best hatch yet.

Thanks Tori (hope its ok to call you that

)

I am freaking out and the entire family wants me to bust the egg open....so I have put a lock on the outside of the spare room door where the bator and baby chicks are, that way the cats cant push the door open, and anyone thats not tall enough to reach the lock cant get in (kids).

I really hope this little one makes it......but it looks really tiny!
Thank you again!

that baby duckys are soooo cute...a friend the one that got us interested in chickens just told us the other day (after we called to tell them about our incubator) that they will send over some duck eggs for us to hatch!!!!! I'd say they are total enablers!

BTW we had another hatch just a min ago...first brown egg to hatch. The little green egg is still hanging in there but no progress yet.

We finally have a pip!!! I cannot begin to explain how excited I am, as these are the very FIRST babies hatched on our farm!! WOOT!!! and they came all the way from Tori in Alaska!! WOOT!

EmmyLou's egg (I named LouLou) has a nice large pip, not zipped yet, but when I went out to change the waters (don't want the new chickies drowning in a big one ya know!) I could hear cheaping!!

Yes, so I peeked! I know I know bad!

But LouLou's pip was a bit bigger, and she was screaming like crazy inside her egg!! AND Elvis's egg was pipping!!

WOOT!!

And just remember, sometimes there's a reason they don't make it out of the shell.... and I think it's safe to say that they need that struggle to get everything working right. If things aren't right, it's Mother Nature's way of culling the weak. Not to be depressing or anything, but it happens.

I TOTALLY agree. Just like anything else. If they can't work their way out of egg, they won't develop their muscles correctly, etc. Could make for a muriad of problems later, too.
