Well I was not expecting mine until tomorrow, but I had to due emergency c-sections on the eggs.
Due to the HUGE air sacs, I pulled one of my own eggs that pipped and candled it, then I tapped it and heard a loud peeping inside. That was at 9am. Well I took it out and tapped it at 5pm and the peeping was real faint, so I knew if I did not do something fast all my chicks would be deceased in the morning.
Upon cracking the end with the air sac, my fear was confirmed. My baby chick was shrink wrapped in the membrane and the membrane was very dry. So far I found 4 fully formed chicks from my eggs deceased, 3 Andalusians and 2 Jersey Giants. I just wanted to cry.
Poor little guys suffocated. I have 9 that I did the egg c-section on.
You are probably wondering what is an egg c-section?
1) candled egg
2) broke open the end with the air sac
3) removed shell at air sac end and outer layer
4) soaked and folded 1/2 of a paper towel
5) wrapped paper towel around membrane on baby leaving beak area open and placed back in side incubator
6) wet fresh towel every hour to hour and a half, rewrapping baby
I pray this works.
Come on babies
the sad thing is, ones that were peeping loudly were barely making any sound when I got to them.
But my hopes for their survival are still high, they are breathing good and seem to be hanging in there.
I guess I will know soon what survives and what doesn't. So far they seem to be doing good.
This is going to be an all nighter since I am so worried about my 1/2 suffocated babies and I am really curious as to what the 2 JG's are, Blue, Black or Splash. So far all I can tell is one is darker and one is light.
