Who is with me?

Oh, I am sorry. I wish I could help, but I have no clue!!

I found a post on another site in which someone was discussing "hip dysplasia" in one of their turklettes. This is all that she really said:

"That was why in the end, we stuck the lower portion of his legs onto shaped card to hold both his 'knees' & 'ankles' at the right distance apart & keep his lower legs parallel to each other. It was harder (but not impossible) for him to walk, but it did go some way to correcting the right hip displacement & twisted right leg."

It sounds like they made a splint that went all the way up his legs and held it there, but no one on that forum was very optimistic about turklettes and displaced hips.

I hope you can figure something out for him!!

Thanks Riqui.... I have posted in the injury section too. Maybe SOMEBODY will have an answer for me.

Steve of S and S poultry said he didn't know if there was anything else to do.

I have made the very, very hard decision to cull.

I know in my heart that the little guy would have no quality of life what so ever especially since he can't walk.

This morning when I checked on him he has gotten to the point where he can't even move the leg.

I just feel so darn bad because he is the sweetest little guy. Nothing is wrong with him except his leg.

I am literally squalling my eyes out as I am typing this.

Good bye little guy!!!!! I'll remember you!!!!

I am so sorry! I had to do the same thing with a chick from my first batch of silkies. I didn't know anything about spraddle leg and didn't "see" it when I got him. Between that and the fact that he was apparently born with deformed feet (his toes seemed to be clumped together), he couldn't walk at the end. I felt horrible that I hadn't done anything before that and had let it get that bad, but I had no clue. The other chicks started being mean to him and he couldn't even stand when I finally made the decision. Of course, he was my favorite out of that group - the cutest one! I understand your pain!

I am sorry!

Hello everyone! Happy August!

I thought I would drop in and see how everyone is doing! We have stopped turning the Silkies and the Araucanas. The Guineas will stop being turned on Wednesday. I have read, in quite a few places, that Guineas have a tendency to hatch a few days early. If that is the case, I will have the 29 eggs that are in there still all hatching at about the same time!! lol

I hope everyone is well!!
