Who is with me?

Sorry I've been AFK, got two baby goats yesterday, found a Brower 1930's solid redwood incubator - 5 tray today and bought it and that took awhile and so busy. Ill be back on a bit later. Hugs...

Riqui, how are things going? I have been checking back but nothing from you yet.

I had my last July 5th baby hatch and about time. I really need to get the incubator cleaned before the July 9th and 10th eggs go in. I think I am at about 30 babies since the 23rd. I have the banties in 1 container and the regular chicks in the other, since the bigger ones seem to just run over the banties.

I di not get the pic's yet, but you all know how I am with that. I will get them.

Check back later.

By the way Chickiemama, I think the girls have started laying again, I will let you know.

This is for all of you that are hatching.

Hello! I am so sorry. My husband and I had plans and I just couldn't sit here, so I went to horse track. No joke.

He made it out. As soon as I left, the watched pot started to boil. The only thing is, he can't seem to pick his head up. There has been a second one hatched since he came out and that one is mouthy and moving all over. He just lies there and flops around, primarily. I am not sure if I should do anything or just leave him alone and let him try to gain his strength. There is blood in the shell that was left and he just seems very tired.

I have another one that is pipped on the side. I am going to try, very hard, to just leave the incubator alone and not stress it. In fact, there is a very good chance that I am going to go play golf tomorrow, so... lol

Let me know if I should bother the first little guy! They are so darn cute!!! I will try to get a pic.

YAY! Good for you. I had 3 out of my 7 silkies pip at the wrong end during my last hatch and they all made it out fine. Also like yours they were very weak, I thought they were going to die. I wouldn't open the bator and risk your other guys by dropping the humidity. Plus it is very warm in there and thats the perfect thing for a wet, exhausted baby!

Good luck and post a pic!

Okay, here is a picture of the mouthy, rambunctious little black one and one of the yellow one. Obviously, the yellow one is the one that I was referring to and, in this picture, it looks like he has a piece of shell over his eye. Should I try to take that off? I also included a pic of the goo that came out with him, just to see what you guys think of it. I figure that you are old pros at this, so while I think it is gross, you'll now what it is all about.

My 14 year old was here with them and kept me up to date. He took pictures and sent them to me as things progressed. It was easier that way. I KNOW I would have stuck my hands in and he knew his would be broken if he did. lol

Thanks for the help!!

The little yellow guy just doesn't seem to have the strength to keep his head up. He will get his little butt in the air and then he will find that his little beak is stuck in the grating on the bottom. He has to throw himself and ends up flipping over.

The next one that has pipped is also on the side and he is working at it. There is a little chunk out of the side and you can see him poking, but it doesn't look like that membrane is broke. Is that possible? How did part of the shell break away, but that membrane is intact?

Okay, I guess that I am not done making you crazy...or myself. lol

I wouldn't open the bator to remove the shell. Its fine, or you can always wet it with warm water after he dries to get it off. Now is not a good time to open it(I myself have a very hard time keeping the bator closed). I bet you he will be fine by morning. That goo, gross but is normal. I bet you he makes a great recovery!

Then I will just go watch a movie and try to forget that they exist for a little while (yeah, right!!).

I will, of course, let you know if anything changes! lol

Since he's out just let him settle for the night and see what tomorrow brings, their necks can hurt from having been in an off position in the egg, it happens. Tomorrow is soon enough to get him sugar of some sort and electrolytes. Hugs sorry it's been rough and I've been out of contact.

Just to settle my curiosity and wondering for the night, what about this one with the chunk of shell off, but the membrane still intact? He has pipped on the side too. Is he okay like that, without the membrane being tore away? Can he breath? I feel like such a dope and I apologize, truly, if I am making you nuts. I can't help it.
