Who is with me?

One side of the egg is marked with an X and the other with an O. That's how I originally read to mark the eggs, so that when you roll them, you know which ones have been rolled, etc. The other side of the araucana eggs is written on, noting what group of her chickens they came from (whether they came from her rooster names Pete's group or Jack's, etc.).

I wouldn't have known to ask that about the peafowl eggs, CB. Thank you. Do you already have these birds as adults? Maybe you can either dispel or confirm what I have heard... It seems that everyone says that they are dirty, messy birds that have a knack for ruining things, including vehicles (as they apparently like to roost there), with the males being known for being aggressive, quite often. I think that they are pretty, but everything that I hear makes me shy away...

I just saw your "by the way" comment, CB.

I am afraid!! There are 47 eggs in that incubator!! And, to make it worse (in my opinion), they are all going to hatch within a few days of one another!! I will let you guys know when the first pip happens and then none of you better leave the computer. I was nuts with just 14 last time and I won't be able to leave this time - no horse track for Riqui!! lol

X O thing is beyond me. I would never have enough time to turn them like that. I just reach in and roll them from one side to the other.

Has for the Peafowl themselves, mine seem no different than the chickens. I have not had any problems with them. I do not let them out yet, that will come next year after I separate them from the pheasants. As always, everyone has their own opinions. My birds are not aggressive, but they are surely not going to hop up in my lap as WWD's birds do. If you handle them a lot, you will get a different attitude from them.

I figured that about the peafowl. I didn't see how they could be all that different from any other bird, but I had yet to talk to anyone about them. Besides, I have guinea in the incubator and they are supposed to be loud and unlovable too. lol I DON'T need any though!! Besides, I have to find me a frizzle first! lol

The Xs and Os just help me to make sure I have turned them all properly. That no egg was left behind or didn't make it over... I don't do anything more than reach in and turn them too, I just like to have that to double-check myself, I guess.

Turklette Update:

Both are getting stronger and kicking their legs. They are both cuddled up to a feather duster I put in the bator. However, they are not at the point where they can actually stand yet. Any idea how long it might be until they get to the point where they can hold their head up? I can see a big improvement in them from when I went to work this morning until now.

Woohoo for the turklettes!! Turklette...that's just a fun word!! I hope they continue to improve for you!! When do I get to see a picture, so I can want one of those too!? lol

To add to my list, I have now seen vulturine guineas!! They are awesome - beautiful!! I can't have one though...it is too cold here...

Little black turklette (Yeah Riqui, I love the word turklette too) was standing up this morning.

Little grey one was still laying down but he/she's still doing the scooting thing.

I will try to get some pictures tonight when I get home. I'm not promising anything though. Our small little patch of corn is ready so we (interpreted as me) will be picking/shucking/putting up corn tonight.

Yay Turklettes!!!

It's too cold here for me to have them. They, apparently, don't do winter. That's the only season we really have - "Almost Winter", "Winter", "More Winter" and "Quick! Take your coat off and enjoy the sun before it goes away again!!" Of course, this year, the last season there has been replaced by "Oh my word! Will it ever quit raining and get warm?!"

Besides, I don't think I could justify the cost of those birds, just because I think they are pretty! I saw one person that said that they had about $650 in each adult bird that they have (although I am not sure what all that included) and another person that was selling either chicks or eggs for $250 each. Since I would want 4 or 5...I just can't justify it...and my husband would probably kill me... lol
