Who just got their first or first in a long time or even just a brand new breed?
I just bought my babies on Thursday and am getting 3 more a bit older tomorrow as well. Love to share and join in with the love of the new chicks.

What I have:
Purchased from Cackle Hatchery(I live in the same town)(Got these on a great sale)
4 Brahma 2-3 days old (1 cockerel, 3 pullets)
2 Delaware 2-3 days old (2 pullets)
2 White Rocks 2-3 days old ( 2 pullets)
1 Silver Lace Wyandotte (pullet)

Getting tomorrow from local breeder
3 black Cornish pullets 1-2 months old

Feel free to join in and we can share this journey of chicks into adulthood.

This is my first time having chickens in about 10 years. I had ducks until recently and loved them but decided to go a different way on my homestead.

I also just got my first chicks in about a decade from Cackle.

I had two other people go in on my order because unlike you I live 1700+ miles from that hatchery, and the more chicks in a single shipment the better. I ordered 5 white Silkies, my roommate Kelsea ordered 5 golden laced Sebrights, and my friend Gen ordered 8 Easter Eggers.

Six of each Silkies and Sebright bantams arrived alongside the eight Easter Egger pullets ordered.

Unfortunately these first few days with them have been stressful, as one of the Sebrights never recovered from shipping and one of my Silkies may have a cloacal prolapse or abscess that I doubt it'll recover from.

Good news is my friend says her Easter Eggers are right on track and seem perfectly healthy.

I chose Silkies because I want birds that I can manhandle and cuddle and bathe and groom for fun. :D I like the idea of maintaining their wonderful fluff. The occasional eggs will be a bonus.

I also appreciate the fact that they'll probably not be able to make it over our 4ft fence, though I'm not looking forward to fending off neighborhood cats.

Aww Silkies are so cute. If I wanted bantams and didn't have mud I'd get them too.
Cackle usually is really goo with shipping. At least they sent one extra each of the ones that are having trouble. If you have anymore early losses contact them. they usually have good customer service.

Hope the rest pull through without issues. Mine are all healthy and running around well, but they didn't have shipping stress either.

Yeah, I bought my chicks to dote on as city pets, feathered feet are a major disadvantage out in the field. What color are your Brahmas?

Do you know anything about Cackle's "Exhibition Light Brahma"? They don't have any information posted on their website about them. I could email and ask, but I'm not in the market for chicks right now.

I got light brahmas. I'm working on certain traits and want the mix to maintain the light color and fluffy feet lol.

The exhibition brahmas are in the same position as the Black Cornish from Cackle. They don't currently carry them and are looking for a new breeder or stock to start them up again. They've been looking at least 2 years now so I wouldn't hold my breath lol

We ordered 15 chicks from Cackle last week as well. They sent us 16, all arrived alive, but unfortunately I lost 3 over the weekend due to stress. It was a long trip and took all of the theee days. But my remaining 13 are doing absolutely fabulous (fingers crossed!). My original flock consists of 6 girls that I got in spring from TSC. 2 Leghorns, 2 RIR, and 2 Golden Comets. They're all currently laying beautiful brown and white eggs, and I decided I wanted to add more colors. So I ordered 10 Easter Eggers from Cackle along with 5 Plymouth Barred Rocks, because I love the classic look of the PBR.

I ended up losing 2 EE's and 1 PBR, but they were also among the smallest. I had another's tiny EE that had a round of pasty butt the other night. I was concerned because she started standing around peeping with her eyes closed. But by the next morning she had recovered and is all over the place. :)

Aww a bunch of cuties there. Sorry you had a few losses.
I'm really grateful I live within walking distance and need no shipping.

I got my 1ish month old black cornish. They are very scared and skittish and won't come out of the inside into the run but they'll calm in a day or two.
All of my chicks are doing well-eating almost as much as ducklings, but so relieved there's like 90% less mess lol

That's so awesome that you live so close to Cackle. My husband promised to take me to see it the next time we go home to visit family. Have fun with your new babies.
:)

Lol yeah and I didn't even know it was here when we moved here lol. We chose the town because had a movie theatre and was only an hour from 2 bigger cities.
Lol my little ones are getting wing feathers. Lol my brahma cockerel (I'm pretty sure it's the cockerel anyway) is brave and rarely runs away when I change the water and food out now.

I have received my cackle hatchery surprise box 3 weeks ago. All chickens. And 52 to be exact. I have identified three golden spangled anhauser spitzhaubens....probably spelling that wrong. 5 polish 6 standard pheonix. Some standard Cochin's and other various breeds I haven't identified lol. I'm loving it!!
