I have (5) 21 week old pullets. One of my EE has been laying sweet little blue eggs for almost 3 weeks. Today we got a brown egg and I'm unsure whether it came from my Barred Plymouth Rock or my Black Copper Marans. They've both been squatting and checking out the nest boxes recently. Both are hatchery birds - likely the Marans won't give those famous dark chocolate eggs. Any guesses as to which of the two laid it?

You'll just have to watch and see who lays it. Can be either one. I had some EE's that all layed blue eggs then I started getting a pinkish egg. I just had to be patient and catch her in the act.

Bob, Bob laid the egg...

Ok no really. I would guess the barred but as you said hatchery chicks it really could be either

Ya know, Thinking about it you may be right. I have some Dominique's and they lay eggs that look just like that.

Thanks! Wefound the egg in the far right in the run today (hope that's a fluke) Pretty sure today'sbrown egg is from my BCM. The brown egg that we found yesterday in the nest box and was significantly lighter than the one we found today. Now I'm wondering if yesterday was the BR and they are both laying now Time will tell!

I would say BR on lighter and BCM on darker. Looks to me like ya got 2 new layers, especially with one in yard...yay!

The second brown should even out as time goes on but will likely always be a speckled brown
