Why are costco brown eggs so incredibly dark?

Gotcha then I'm definitely at a loss haha
Someone has been breeding for shell color, while still managing to get enough production (frequency and size) to make it economically worthwhile for the farmer. Interesting!

Guess so! I do like the vital farms brand eggs it could just be their marketing but i like that they put a card in the carton with which farm that dozen came from but definitely only buy them when all the driveway coolers in my neighborhood are empty 😂

Yes! I feel they've gotten much darker over the years and thought I was hallucinating.

All commercial egg farms that I know of use rsl. But there's now at for me to be sure, I just guessed. I could try to dig deeper.
You're right! Browns are usually comets/RSL and sometimes ISA browns and whites are almost always leghorns in commercial operations atleast here in the states. Im new to backyard chickens but Ive got decades of experience in agriculture and our food systems. I hope my comet lays eggs that dark when shes old enough 😂

I spent 40 dollars on 3 maran pullets to hopefully get eggs that dark from my own chickens, lol.

Marans eggs should be at least that dark, if not darker (depending on what type of Marans) but the tradeoff is usually the darker the egg, the fewer eggs you'll get. Mine have all been lousy layers but I seem to like their personalities so I keep picking them up. :)

I heard they have great personalities! I bought a Blue (BBS) Birchen, Splash, and a Wheaten. I didn't get the black copper even though they lay the darkest, because I like all my chickens to look different. I have a BSL Girl Who looks exactly like a BCM, lol.

Here she is. Not exactly the same, but especially with hatchery Marans, I feel they'll look very similar.
