I have 7 pullets that are potentially egg-laying aged (almost 8 months). 5 of them have been laying already and the other 2 haven't yet (that I know of). Of the 5 that lay, I have a White Leghorn who only lays white eggs, a GLW and Mystic Marans who both lay light brown eggs, a Wellsummer who lays dark speckled eggs and a Barnevelder who lays light golden looking eggs with dark speckles. I also have a red laced black Wyandotte and a Russian Orloff who haven't started laying yet. Here's the typical eggs from those 5:

A few days ago I found a very dark egg in the nesting box in the morning It was there with a light brown egg. I assumed maybe my Marans was just printing dark that day and thought nothing more until I saw her in the nesting box later that day and she laid her normal color. Later that day I also got a speckled egg from the Wellsummer. The Leghorn and Barnevelder did not lay that day. So 4 eggs.

Skipping the white egg at the bottom, it's GLW, mystery egg, Wellsummer, Marans:

The next day I got another one:
Here's the Leghorn, mystery egg and Wellsummer:

The only known layer who has never laid an egg the same day as the mystery egg is the Barnevelder. But her usual egg looks like this:

It's unusual for my Barnevelder to go 4 days without laying but it's getting darker earlier. Normally she skips 1 day and then lays for several and then skips a day, but she is a newer layer and with the season changing...

Could the Barnevelder go from always laying those gold-ish speckled eggs to the dark brown with just a few speckles? Or is it one of my 2 non-layers sneaking in on me? The red laced black Wyandotte has looked ready to lay for ages but has shown no interest and had some feather damage (pecking) so I figured she'd start laying once she finished regrowing those feathers. The Russian Orloff doesn't look at all ready to lay (comb is too pale, no interest in calcium or nesting boxes).

Who do you think is laying those dark brown eggs?

If you are very, very curious (as was I 😁) you should put a game camera up and pointed at your nesting boxes. I was somewhat surprised by who laid what.
