Who laid this egg?

We have only one pullet laying so far and can’t narrow down who it is. It’s between a Rhode Island Red and a black sex link (black star). Who laid this egg??

Both of those varieties lay brown eggs, so if you really want to know, you will need to check the vent areas of your pullets. The one that laid will have wider pubic bones and her vent will be larger and moister. I can't think of any other way.

My guess would be a black sex link. I have both.

Wow - pretty, dark egg with freckles! Nice!

My RIR's eggs aren't that dark or ever had freckles; I've never had a black sex link. Still, new pullet eggs can certainly vary in size/appearance till the new girl settles into her laying...

My guess would be a black sex link. I have both.

I have one Rhode Island Red and her eggs while brown are not that dark.
