Who ordered birds this spring and what did you get?

Spring is spelled F - U - N for some of us chicken lovers, from the newbies with their first chicks to the folks on their 50th order of chicks...

did you order chicks this year? If so, what did you get?

I ordered a few birds myself:

Ameracunas
Buff Orpingtons (new to me)
Silver laced Wyandottes
Barred Rocks
California White (new to me)
White Crested Black Polish mix (also new to me)
and
one Speckled Sussex male (to be the main man of the coop - also a new breed I haven't tried)
and
one Black Breasted Cubalaya as my 'designer chicken' to mix in as well


not due until the 22nd. We will see what happens!!

What I actually got was

17 Easter Eggers
9 cuckoo marans
6 btw Japanese
5 Sultans
14 packing peanuts

All that because the the first batch of ornamentals died within 8 hrs of arrival. They reshipped and needed extra babies for warmth. I wanted 30 or so chicks instead I got 51 chicks.

Never mind the 10 or so BC marans I ordered or the 25 aloha chicks... Oh man oh man this chicken math is something else!

These are my first chicken ever.
Hoping with my garden and the chicken I will lower my food costs. LOL I am the mom of 4, two of which are teen boys right now.

i've had them (26 total) since monday morn. all well & active. these are my very first ever & it's been fun. so glad they're ok. one is supposed to be an "exotic". i don't see a unique one in the bunch. their definition of "unique" is probably a little roo

i would love to order ducks or geese. maybe next year.

My new babies to arrive March 8th from California Hatchery are:

1 Barred Rock female
1 Buff Orphington female
2 Black Astralorp, a female & a male

These will go with my current females, 1 Barred Rock and 1 Buff Orphington I already have.

PLUS, also due to arrive March 8th from Metzers are:

1 female & 1 male Welsh Harlequin ducklings
2 female Khaki Campbell ducklings

To go with my current 3 female Welsh Harlequins I already have.

Already making plans to increase size of grazing areas for the chickens and the ducks. WOW! This will be a full house!

I have some chicks coming from Ideal mid-April. These breeds are all new to me. I have 25 pullets from Ideal from September that are just starting to lay. Ah... chicken math!
2 speckled sussex
4 Norwegian jaerhon
2 blue cochin
4 blue silkies
1 dark brahma

Also, Either in March or April I have 2 lavender ameraucanas coming from a breeder. a group of us went in together on a hatch from the breeder. with my luck they'll both be cockerels but you never know.
