I'm picking up a Spitzhauben and splash (blue) Hamburg tomorrow and a cream Brabanter with maybe a gold spangled Hamburg next week.

I'm a first time chicken lady lol. I just placed my order today with Meyer. My kids and I picked a mix so we could try them all out and see what will be good for the future when we order again. We are getting :

Look at all of these chicken fanatics on this thread! We are keeping these hatcheries in business! LOL! I'm building a bigger coop this spring, but it won't be ready for a few weeks yet. I've never had to brood so many chicks before (expecting there will be twice as many since they send males for warmth) so my little horse trough system that I usually use won't be big enough.

No big deal! I am creative. I will brood them in the back of my horse trailer!

The whole horse compartment is lined in rubber and is aluminum (SO easy to clean), complete with electricity and H2O. Throw down some shavings, hang the heat lamps and adjust the windows/screens/vents for air. But I guess I'm grounded for about 6 weeks or so from trailering out to ride but then it's for a good cause, right? Anything for chickens!
