Who say's Cat's and Chickens can't get along

Had to add my own picture to this thread. Our kitten Miss Emily has been sooo curious about our chicks since day 1. Well she got to fill her curious when our 5 year old forgot to close the cage after he was playing with the chicks.

My Persian cats are 6 and 10 yrs old. Neither had ever seen a chick or chicken until last year. No worries, as they've been around many animals, wild and domestic, and been friends with everyone.
I'm just happy the chicks and chickens don't pick on (or peck on!) my cats.

We've got 2 one year old cats who haven't ever really been allowed outside until now (we live maybe 10 metres from, statistically, THE most dangerous road in the country. Enough to scare my mum so she didn't want to risk losing them) It was only in the last week or so I've started letting the cats out because this whole indoor thing just wasn't working for them, and as a result they've only just discovered our chickens. Poor chickens never saw it coming :(

They are constantly following them and chasing them, I think it would just be curiosity but the chickens freak out when the cat is near and act like prey, so they cats have learnt that they are prey. None hurt/killed yet, luckily our cats are rubbish hunters however hard they try, so I'm just hoping that chickens become boring to them sooner rather than later!

On the other hand, I deliberately introduced them to the ducklings at a few days old so now the ducklings have no fear of the cats - as soon as they see one they just walk straight up to it and peck it's tail. As a result, the cats are very wary and respectful of these tiny ducklings yet have no issue chasing the rooster! Just shows that first impressions do count :p
