Who wants to hatch with me DUCKY EGGS went in bator today

Oh yea, I love my Hovabator!!! I have 2 LG's and a Hovabator. I've had the Hovabator for years and its definitely better than the LG!

What stinks about my ducks is that they internally pipped and then died. That's what breaks my heart. To see they made it all the way to almost breaking through the shell and then just dying.

Call ducks are my favorites. I have two whites and I was really hoping my chocolates were going to make it.

Are those pure or crossed? They don't look like my Goldens. Mine are supposed to be pure. Crap maybe mine are not?? They are stinkin' cute!



I'm not sure I bought the roo and two hens from a co-worker,he didnt even know what they were,I did some research and found them to be Golden Seabrights,both the hens and the roo have the markings but that doesnt mean they are pure.

Laurie I am so sorry i know how you feel . I lost 32 chicken eggs in bator all i can tell is that maybe the humidity was to high. Tossing 32 fully developed chicks was so sad. Thank goodness i had more eggs in my bators or i would have cried. A few of my ducks piped yesterday two are out one lost some blood when he kicked his shell away that was still attached to the yolk. I dont know why but my rouen eggs always pip and then the make a small hole and sit there . the last time i just left them alone and all but 3 died now I will help if they have not made progress after 28hrs. My three rouen females are all sitting on nests. I went out this morning and one had pucshed a egg out and it was crushed and just shell left. I dont know is that the norm they push out the ones they think are duds? Anyway as soon as these all fluff I will take pictures. Good luck all keep us posted.

So we had 5 ducks hatch 12 died in the shell like they were shrink wraped? One duck had to be put down

he had a neck problem he could not hold it and stayed all curled up > We waited but he could not move to eat it was so sad. I dont know why these ducks are so hard to hatch. I have 2 more eggs in bator but i dont know if they are ok I will candle tonight. We ordered more pekin ducks . i dont know if we will incubate more duck eggs. When we called the hatchery even they said they are runing at a 60% rate on hatching duck eggs. So i have no idea what I am doing wrong but 12 deaths is a bit much

I am now in what is apparently the 'fatal fourth week' for my Muscovy eggs--all two of them.

So, I am preparing for them to kick off any time now--or at best, get to pip stage and then kick off.

That stinks. But if they hatch I'll be sending up a skywriter for you all to see that they did so!

But I've been warned that my chances of success are little more than 0 %

In theory, they should pip on the 13th, next Sunday.

I candle again on Tues. night. We shall see.

They were my own. I do have three rouens now on nest so I am done hatching ducks for awhile the other two are do in a few days. I also had all 7 silkies die today in there eggs they had shrunk the membrane around them and had sufercated. the ones i tried to help were just to far gone. I dont know what the deal is temp was 100 humidity 65% so who knows.

Have you calibrated your hydrometer to see if its reading correctly? It definitely sounds like a humidity problem. I've had crap luck as well with my eggs this go round. My 3 Rouen eggs died at day 26-27. They were not shipped. I have my fingers crossed for the rest of them but I'm totally at a loss this time. I may try ducks once more but if it's as bad as this I won't do it a 3rd time.

Yes i have three and put them all side by side they read almost the same Well dont feel bad our Hatchery said that they r lucky to get 50% so that makes me feel a bit better.

Last week I had 9 chicken eggs to hatch. 2 hatched by themselves, I had to help 3 finish getting out, 4 died before externally pipping. I do not help until external pip. However, that batch started out as 12 total.
Friday I had two Seramas left from a batch of 8. Those two died before external pip.
Tomorrow I have 5 to hatch 1 silkie out of a start of 8 and 4 eggs from home. Fingers crossed for them.
Out of 18 Buff orpington eggs only 3 made it to day 14.
Out of 18 BBS Orpingtons I have maybe 6 that I pray hatches. I really want these guys.
Anyway my luck is the pits lately!
