Wait--let me get this straight. This woman RENTS the house next to yours (which you own) and STILL thinks your world/property lines/pets revolve around her?

I'm sorry you are going through this. I don't know which is worse--neighbor feuds or family feuds. Both are terrible but with family feuds at least you can escape to your own home. I guess the worst would be a feud with your family who were also your neighbors....

Good luck and keep us posted!

Geez, this is what I'm worried about. I'm in the process of putting up a 6' privacy fence now. My neighbors, as far as I can tell, seem fairly nice. But the one on the left side is funny about fences. You never know how someone will react. And my coop will be close to her side; the poison part scares me. I feel for you, please let us all know how it goes. Finding dead pets is very suspicious. I would not sleep well either. GOOD LUCK.

...that is truly scarey if you truly cannot move your little coop elsewhere... (insert nailbiting emote here)... People like that I am afraid will stop at nothing to get back at you. I had a lovely privacy hedge situated exactly on the dividing line between me and my neighbor (so half on their property half on mine)...till they bought their house (we both rent)...came home one day and they had pulled the hedge out (a lovely established one six foot high) WITH A BULLDOZER (and seeing that the only way in WAS THROUGH MY YARD WHICH HAD BEEN trashed I WAS NOT AMUSED) ... to make a looonnnggg story short...NOW THEY ENJOY MY ROOSTERS EACH MORNING

(oh...btw....I have an EXTREMELY creaky garden door which is right under their bedroom window and it is the only way out of my yard which is used each morning as my kids go to school)

I would certainly be interested in reading more, if you have updates. It's unreal what someone will do. I would have done exactly what you did, not changing a thing. GOOD FOR YOU!!!!

Instigating a neighbor is never a good idea. I bet I can easily throw snail poison pellets over a 9 foot fence and 50 feet into a yard at 2 AM. Farther with a six foot fence. A camera would never see it. The pellets are brown and would be hard to find.

Why in the world did they build right on the property line there when there is so much space? If houses are pretty easy to rent in your area, you could let the landlord know that you would be happy to be available to show the house for new tenants. I'd be careful not only for your chickens safety but for yours too. So sorry to hear about this situation.

jmfaustin, from the property schematic you posted, I'd guess that running an extension cord to the coop and hooking up a baby monitor ($20.00) might be provide some optional security. We've been using ours in the coop for two years (learn all sorts of interesting chicken and turkey talk - hear the raccoons mating and the `possums scuffling, etc.), with good results. When the hens start growling I get the spotlight and rifle...

You should also be able to hear whatever your neighbor is up to if she's yapping to someone in her backyard (deer moving through the brush at ~40yd.s from the coop are easily IDed).

Good Luck!

Check real close for poison, if she has poisoned the there are several agencies that can help; suchas animal league of welfare as well as your veternatian in the case of poisoning. But probalby moving the coop for now is your safest option, and it is your property; you are not under any obligation to let her park and the fence is your priveledge.
Good luck
Ray
