It's a cockerel. Big, colorful comb/wattles at an early age, deeper red coloring at the shoulders, and an irregular overall color pattern are what I am judging by. Its legs are also thick, another sign.

If you send pictures of each chick, we can possibly figure out their breeds. You can also ask your friend's neighbor which breeds they have.
I’d say that’s a Cornish cross, and a pullet. Though since they’re mixed breeds, she’s probably that and something else, as she’s not quite as chunky as one would expect.View attachment 3603259
