Whoa! Thats Expensive!

I never realized how expensive steel fencing is! But now when im biulding a run that a 50ftx50ft (200 sq.ft.) (divided into a bunch of mini runs-i know, its a sickness!

) im just getting the idea. I was wondering if anybody had a place that i could buy from thats not as expensive.Thanks.

Poultry netting is rather cheap comes in different sizes and strengths but it's not for everyone.

You can use chicken wire to separate the chickens and hardware cloth for the outside

Craigslist is an excellent start. But only for perimeter fencing. In between the breed divisions you can use plain old chicken wire. Or even Plastic netting.

yes i would use chicken wire for the inside dividers and the expensive fencing for the outside areas

I'm building an enclosed (covered) 50' long and 25' deep run with 5 mini runs also. I get my fence at TSC. I like to put chicken wire on the bottom of the outside fence so small critters can't get inside and the chickens can't put their necks outside of the fence. Never know what critters could be waiting for such an opportunity.

Not sure what your situation is but use good fence on the outside like the others are suggesting if there are ANY chances of predators. My neighbors dog climbed over my 5 foot fence last February and killed half of my flock. Thats why i'm covering my new run and I also put our new coop right where i can see out the back door and shoot predators if i have to. I know stuff is expensive now days but if you value your flock don't skimp too much.

I buy the 16 ft. by 4 ft. cattle panels at farm store for around 20.00. They are stiff and stand up well using only 2 or 3 steel posts to hold them. And they can curve and bend if you want to soften the look instead of squaring it up. Then I use the cheaper 2 ft. woven wire fencing or even chicken wire to go around bottom half of panels. Using hog rings to attach it.

We recently put up a turkey pen using these and even made a gate out of a piece of the panel... When we need to take it down or rebuild it is simple to take panels down and pull the steel posts out of ground.

Have you checked www.wayfair.com? I bought three 50-foot rolls of 48" wide hardware cloth wire for half the price I could find it locally. It was delivered to my door within about three days. They have other types of wire, too.
