Whole Flock has Bumblefoot!! Need FAST help!!

Mathhew- Soak the foot in betadine and epsom salt, mix them with warm water to make it look like a weak tea. For those who just have the black scab at the bottom of the foot all u really need to do is soak it and pull that scab off. The plug will usually come with it, if it doesn't you gotta dig around in there for the rest. I have had this several times as well (rocky twiggy area) Pack the wound with neosporin and bandage the foot with neosporin soaked gauze. resoak and change bandage for a few days or up to a week if things don't start looking normal yet. I have let them stay with the flock while they were healing unless its a really bad case. You just need to make sure the area stays clean which is why it should be changed everyday and resoaked just in case debris got in the bandage. I go in between each toe with the vetwrap so they don't loose their balance and make sort of a toeless sock out of it. Hope that helps.

I personally have never cut the foot. I soak with epsom salt (REALLY soak it long) and gently PULL it out. It might not happen the first soak but it does happen. In the meantime, I put on Neosporin or something of the like and keep them in quarentine... not because it spreads, but because I can clean the bedding daily.

Keep it clean, keep soaking. Tweezers and a steady hand and you can pull the "plug" out. Once it's out, I stuff it with Neo again and keep this up for 10-20 days depending on how bad it is. If it is really bad I MAY give anti-biotics to help the chicken out, but usually that is not something I jump to.

I hope this helps. You will have to do each bird individually and if you have someone to help, get them to. It takes me 20 minutes or so PER bird for soaking and neo alone... then you have to clean everything the bird touches with the bottom of their feet too. Very time consuming. Good luck!
