Whole flock has Favus

I have a few birds with white, scaly looking faces. One is quite bad, with crusting in the neck feathers. I see no other evidence on the rest of the body that would point to lice or mites. Is this favus?

This bird (first picture) also has a limp. I'm wondering if it's Mareks disease, except she is not just limping, she has her foot curled up and is favouring it.

This hen is raising a chick, and I noticed her comb was looking quite bad, so I gave her a deworming treatment. But now, looking more closely, I see she also has the white scabby looking face.

And I've been watching the big Roo's comb, which looks a little less healthy and has some white spots in it.

I also have a young roo with a raised, scabby area under the wattles. Again, no sign of lice or mites on the rest of the body.

I've checked repeatedly for lice and mites and see no evidence on the birds. They have healthy looking skin, no sign of irritation near the vents.

Any thoughts?

Well, gosh! There always seems to be something! I thank you so much for your posts and pics because you just never know when they could come down with something like this.

I decided just now to post this as a new topic, under "is this favus?" because I realized this original post went back to April. Sorry if this causes confusion. Please see my new post "is this favus?". Thanks!!

Daily treatment with generic Monistat seemed to help over a period of two weeks. I got rid of the rooster because he was getting aggresive and I didn't want him to continually reinfect the hens. There are still a few hens that have tiny white spots on their combs but they have just stayed the same (not better or worse) since they were all treated together. I have new pullets now that have shown no signs of favus. The worst chickens were culled though. I hated to do that but I thought it best for the overall flock.

Yours don't seem to have the white on their combs so I'm really not sure. I don't thing treating them would hurt so if it were me, I would try it for a week and see if there is improvement.

Can I ask something sort of insensitive but being a new chicken person, I really am not sure. But it looks sort of gross in there. I do deep litter but I also do a very good cleaning. The water was filled with dirt and an old feather. I can't help but feel that if that's the environment they live in, perhaps there isn't even much hope to treat them. They will just reinfect with whatever is in their environment.

I'm not sure what you're referring to. Are you referring to the pictures I posted? I've checked the pictures to see what you might be seeing. The first picture is one out in the run, and there is a block of wood, and yes there are feathers (they're losing a lot of feathers) and there are some shavings, and I'm sure there is some dirt and poop in there. There is a picture of the feeder, with clean feed, and one feather that one of them lost. And there is no water in the pictures. I'm not sure where you're seeing dirty water in the pictures I've posted. I do keep the water clean. They do get it dirty quickly because they pick in the dirt out in the run, but I change it daily and am very conscientious about giving the water containers a good scrub as soon as there is any sign of buildup.

I hope that your flock came back to health! (New to this site and can't figure out how to go back to your original post at the moment, so not sure how long ago you posted it). I also wanted to thank you for posting all of those pictures- I think my chickens might have it and I've been having a hard time finding visuals.
