I have a flock of 10 chickens all between the ages of 2-3 months. I was out of town last week and my husband didn’t understand my directions and ended up drastically under feeding them - when I returned they all voraciously GOBBLED up the food when I set it down. I commented to him that it was strange for them to eat like that - and he said “they’ve been like that all week!” Little did I know he’d only been feeding them twice a day and one little bowl!!! I noticed one acting a bit off and when I picked her up, her crop was big and hard as a rock. I gave her water and massaged it and it broke up quite a bit and I could move it around and feel all the seeds in there. I checked the whole flock and almost all of them had big crops with varying degrees of hardness. I softened some crumble that I had with water, egg yolk and a little olive oil and they had that last night. This morning a few of them had completely empty crops but a few still have soft seedy material that is malleable in there. Wondering if y’all think I can link it to the fact that my husband severely underfed them last week? And if so I’d love any advice on how to continue treating them! Thank you!

PS Since they are still young I have them in a small covered run outside - I usually move it every 3 days and he also never moved the run during the week I was gone so they didn’t have much to forage either😩

Re-check crops first thing in the morning before they have had anything to eat/drink, hopefully the crops will be empty then.
If you are checking during the day when they eat/drink, you will feel food/water in the crop which is normal.
