whole oats

Can you feed whole oats to chickens or do they have to be ground? I already have some on hand and wanted to feed them oats instead of corn since it's so hot. I don't have a real good way of grinding it.

Mine often choose the whole oats over wheat or BOSS! Whole oats are approximately 20 percent of my birds diet. The birds especially enjoy them soaked and sprouted.
