Whoops@the auction!

So I just went to the auction with the SOLE purpose to get a silkie.... Chick or hen didn't matter. I bid on a silkie hen with 4 chicks and couldn't see it... It's def NOT a silkie. Not even close. So I got my bid number back and bid on 5 silkie chicks.... So now I have a few questions.
Can the hen and FIVE chicks (got a little extra!) go outside with my other chickens? I'm assuming they do not need to be under a light. How do I introduce them to my flock?

Can my silkies sit under the hen? I'm guessing 10 chicks is too many to fit under a butt

When will the hen start laying eggs again?

I can feed the babies chick starter. Can the hen eat this too?

Its best to add them into you're flock at night when the other chooks are sleepy so they wont notice so much there are newbies.
the hen and others can eat the chick starter it wont do them any harm. one of mine went very broody and i gave her eggs to hatch so her and my other 2 hens ate the starter feed and growers until the chicks were old enough to eat the layers. there was no difference in the quality of eggs they all layed. the mother hen started laying again about 2-3 weeks after chicks had hatched.
The chicks and mother can be outside, if it is chilly then have the lamp on for the nights but they should be fine huddled under mother, mine was hatched late in the season so i had the light on over night and off in the day until it got warmer again.
the number of chicks a hen will sit on will depend on the hens size and how many she herself can handle so she maybe able to handle all 10 but i would keep an eye on her and make sure all 10 are being well looked after. have a brooder handy just incase.

I think I'm going to just put them all in a brooder then. I've got them outside with the bigger chicks right now but I don't want to leave them there at night yet. Mommy is protective and the 12 week old chicks are chicken sh** lol
