I write short stories as I have motivation 🙃 I have several bigger stories with lots of characters but I rarely start or finish those.
I've recently taken to writing little stories/scenes based around how I'm feeling...
Hey, mood writing are often some of the best pieces I have in my portfolio! Probably because it literally comes from the heart. I'd love to see some of your work someday if you're ever open to sharing :)

There's a few of my short stories floating around on here  I'm not one to share but sometimes when pushed... :p
If I have the time this year I do want to go back to writing, work on one or two of my older stories 🙃

Wannabe writer here... have been since I was little, but unlike many I haven't done any short stories, just can't think that way. It has to be a full book. And it must be perfect.

I have two I'm working on. Both are science fiction. By working on, I mean adding notes, world building, and dreaming out the scenes... but writing the small details that keep a page moving is SO HARD.

I like using Scrivener. At least if I'm not writing I can fiddle around rearranging the pages and chapters, plus collecting research and writing tips. Not to forget fiddling with Fonts 🙄

Oh my goodness 😭 you sound just like me wow.

I have always loved writing and I guess you could say I’m an aspiring author, though I doubt any of my works will be published!

My first “book” was a notebook full of handwritten stories for my sister when she was learning to read.

Countless notepapers later, I have a whole file of very boring realistic fiction that no one can relate to and make painful reading even for me: “I wrote that?? Ugh!”

The stories have largely faded away as the imaginary world I inhabited for so long was invaded by reality. I struggle to write like that now.

Besides stories, I have written learning materials (mostly for my sister), edited my own newspaper, and kept up a weekly correspondence with an imaginary penal. I also have a solid resume of 20+ papers from college :).

A few years ago, as I began to think deeper thoughts, I started writing poetry. It helped get my thoughts on paper. I frequently still write poems, especially when stressed.

I have been keeping a diary for more than ten years and a journal for nearly five. I also write biweekly to my thread “Eva’s Friends” through I forgot to write this past Sunday.

I was not intending to write this much! Sorry if this was more detail than you wanted… Off to bed now (I hope)!

Well at least we can all commiserate here!

What if we try to encourage one another by sharing writing tips we picked up along the way?
OP, does that sound okay, within your vision for this thread?

If it's okay, I'll start...
From How to Write Dazzling Dialogue by James Bell:

Thematic Dialogue

A very cool way to present your theme is this: have the character who is going to change at the end state the opposite of the theme at the beginning.

This "arguing the opposite" creates a nice thematic arc for the story. So in your own novel, once you're set on the theme, have your Lead (or the character who changes) argue the other way sometime in Act 1.
