Who's Going to the TN Valley Fair Sept 5-14?

I'll PM you, the only way to learn is to try

This should be fun.

That's why I went ahead and entered my boys. A cool experiment and learning experience.
I'd really love to enter my D'Uccle pullet, but I have a bator hatching out soon and will have no place to quarantine her after the show. Sure hope the boys find homes or I'll be in the same boat with them!

Woo hoo!

Borrowed a dog crate from a friend, so I will have a way to quarantine the boys if they don't sell. She just wants me to make sure I 'de-chicken' it before I give it back.

And DH is re-thinking his stance on not attending the fair with me.
9/5-7 is the weekend my kids are with their dad. So it's a bad time for DH to blow brownie points and bonding time.
Add that to the fact that I haven't been upset or begging him to come. Just discussing all the people I hope to meet from here.
And then add in all the new chickens he knows I'll be viewing and contemplating bringing home.

Yup. DH has a whole new attitude about attending the fair

One week to show time.

Both the showing and the midway open at 10am on Saturday.

On 9/6 I'll be there as close to 10am as I can so that I can look around before everything gets too hot and dusty.

On 9/13 I'll have a set of teens and a set of pre-teens with me. So I doubt I'll get there very early

Not only are the teens not morning people, they are primp and preen as well. This in spite of knowing that the heat, humidity & dust will trash all their efforts. But apparently all that counts is that they looked good when they got in the car.

I'll be there other days / times, but the Saturdays are the only definites right now.
And 9/4 when I deliver my show entries

oh my! I didn't realize it was that LONG of an event! I don't know why though, I have it marked on my calnedar.. and then I was thinking it was THIS weekend... I need more sleep, obviously there is no denying that now!!!

Ok... when is the judging? I wanna see the winners of course

The judging is 9/8, in the morning. I'll have to be at work, but I think I'll stop by after work and see who got ribbons. I don't expect mine to win anything, but I plan to do my own 'judging' on the 6th and I want to see if I picked the winners.

There's a lot to learn about chicken standards and if I want to do my showing then I need to learn what traits are good for the breeds I'm currently 'playing' with!

I think the Sevier County fair is this weekend, but we're not planning on going. Saving up for the one in Knox county.

Past fair experience tells me that a lot of birds will still be there. But people can start collecting their birds to take them home that day, so some will be gone or sold. That's why I plan to scope them out Monday evening.

I plan on being there Sat 9/6 early, and for the showning on Monday, the 8th.

Laura wasn't planning on going but now that she's taking an interest in turkeys she is considering it and she is entering a few photos in one of the photo contests.

I will be going whether she does or not.

Birds for sale often sell off very very quickly.

Several breeders at the last fair brought chicks from their competition birds.
