Who's Going to the TN Valley Fair Sept 5-14?

IF walkswithdog can't, then I will.
I didn't see any good buff Orpingtons last year. I know because I remember wishing I'd entered ours! Hopefully this year will be better for buff Orpingtons. T
here were some gorgeaous blue Orps there last year!! And some pretty black ones as well.

I want to see those winners,

since they have the most to learn from. I have all the colors so I like to see them all.

I fell in love with blue orps last year at the fair. I requested some of SpeckledHens eggs but only hatched roos.

They were sweet, but not what I was hoping for. Found them homes elsewhere.

I hatched out some Welsummers as the new flock additions.
Then fell head over heels for mille fleur d'uccles. I just adore those featherfoot chickens!!!!

If all the entries have to be there before the 6th, then I'll try to be there on the 6th and again either the 8th or 9th. I gotta see if anything wants to come home with me!

I double checked the show rules. All birds have until 8am Monday 9/8 to be checked in. Judging begins at 9am that morning. But since all birds have to be tested before they can be admitted I dpubt anyone waits until the last minute. The guy who does the testing said the bulk of the birds get there Friday since they want them there for fair opening and potential buyers.

Birds are not supposed to leave before 9/14 but I know in the past I have seen less birds on the 2nd weekend than I did on the first...
Maybe buyers can take them home but showers can't until the end? I've never bought a bird at the fair.

Thanks for the info!

I bought birds at the Wilson Co. Fair. The show rules said the same thing -- that the birds couldn't leave til the end of the show -- but the guys running the poultry stuff were actually surprised when I asked if the birds I bought needed to stay. I took em home half way through the fair. And yup, these were actual show birds -- not just "for sale" ones. They even got ribbons.

(First and second out of a class of three, and first out of a class of one.

I kinda figured the 'rules' were more like guidelines to work around, bend, stretch. That's why I want to get there Monday night and see what the judges thought.

So although the rules say no altered chickens, the pink showgirl could still also show up

Oh Good IDEA we have a GREAT new camera!

That'll be fun. I soooo love colors. I'm taking COCHIN pics too. And turkey... and midget sheep and midget goats.

Lord, I am sooo far gone and there's no saving me. Did you all see I bought an incubator today? I'm soooo gone over to the darkside.

*stupid question - best smiley site?*

I'm getting excited and nervous, and realizing that some of my birds are going to have separation anxiety when the roos go to the fair.

OK, I'll admit that I'll probably have separation anxiety as well. Will they get enough to eat & drink? Will they be scared?

Is it fair to withhold food for a few hours before they travel to avoid them pooping all over their nice clean foot-feathers?

I love learning new things. But I'm not so good at the trying new things....
