Well we lost Tipsy last night. I had put it in it's own container inside the brooder because I suspected the other duck was beating it up (caught it standing over the ducks belly while it was flipped on its back a couple of times). Apparently it passed in the night. Then I found the other duck trapped behind the feeder in the corner this morning. Sheesh.

So I cleaned the brooder, fresh food, fresh water, some yogurt and some greens. The other duck (as yet unnamed) is cuddled up to its "Thing 2" plush. It needs some rest after its ordeal.

Hi everybody! I'm new to BYC and I am also new to incubating but I am so excited! I have a 1 yr old pair of muscovies and my girl has laid 22 eggs at last count. I don't know but I feel like she couldn't possibly hatch these all herself? I ordered an incubator online today from Murray mcmurray. I hope its an okay one I didn't do alot of research on it but I've heard good things about the products and chicks from this place. I have a few questions. First off my muscovy is sitting on her eggs only at night right now. It gets pretty cold here but not freezing so I don't know if the eggs will be okay. My incubator is ordered today and will be here in 7-10 business days. Could I hatch any of the eggs she has already laid or should I wait for the next ones she lays? This is so exciting for me! ANY advice you guys who have experience could give me would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!

Fertility on eggs not set drops off after about 14 days. It doesn't go to zero though. You could still get a descent hatch.

I found out my thermometer was wrong and was running lower than it said.

I bought a new one for the hatcher and tested my incu temp it's now at the right temp.

This could delay my Duck hatch

I did the brooder within a brooder for Spiffy the first couple days - before she got her feet under her really well.

I am so hoping that by saturday I'll have the chicks out to the brooder coop. I need the room in here so badly. The duckies are gonna stay inside, most of the chicks are going out, but the youngest ones will stay inside too.

I should be done with enough of the waterfowl pen today that I can switch everyone around to clear out the brooder coop for babies. Right now my Brahma flock is in there. They'll be pleased, their getting a much larger outside run to play in. Them are some BIG chickens

Maybe not the largest you can get, but certainly the largest I have around here.

I'd move them out sooner, but I have to clean the coop the ducks have been in
