Sorry for sort of double posting this question..... I'm really anxious about this. Had 2 babies hatch out of seven. 4 pipped but never progressed any further than little beaks out of pips holes. WHY????? Did I do something wrong. Have one more pipping now, last egg. I'm so worried. Please help.
I'm wondering the same thing myself. Out of 12 eggs, 4 never pipped. I've had other hatches where they got a hole big enough for their beak, then died.
Lucy the Goosey (unless she's a he then it'll be Louie
)
She's in a nest made from the packing material from the box of Brahma babies this morning.
She has a mirror, cause she's lonely, but I'm getting a pair of Pilgrim goslings (that are only two days older or so) tomorrow morning for her to keep company with.
I haven't hatched a lot...but to mee it seems that getting bumped around a lot by the other hatchees weakens the ones not yet pipped. Also had a lot of extremely thick egg shells on my ducks/geese.
If they do not progress in a reasonable amount of time (@ six hours for ducks, @ 12 -4,692 hours for geese )
Then you should intervene... in my inexperienced opinion.
Out of my nine quackers and two honkers I had to intervene in all but 2 cases.
I know I am prolly not getting the humidity right and the temp fluctuates way more than it should in my bators...but I have a growing poultry family now when I prolly otherwise should not have but a very slowly growing one!
Good luck with your eggies, and sorry for your loss.
These are the two little love bugs we got out of the 7 eggs! They are so sweet. Father is a white and chocolate ancona and females are Anconas and buffs. Not sure if these guys look like an anona buff x or if they are all ancona..... What do you think?
I am still waiting on these gooses! All 6 of them appear to be doing well and I have two runners that started after and will probably beat them to the punch. I should hatch out about 15 ducks and geese this weekend if all goes well and then another 10 or so next week. I have a few tester calls in there but I think only 3 of the 6 are still going.
Then - my bators will be empty....
So I can fill them with more call duck eggs!
My last ebay auction will go next week, then I'm sending another BYC member some freebies and then...and then....I can collect for myself and let them back into the aviary. I hate keeping them in pens, they will be sooooooooooo happy to get back outside! And I hope every last one of them goes broody!
Last year my one call was laying well into June and she hatched out her babies in July. I can't wait!
