Who's Setting Eggs This Week[end]? [August 8-14]

Ok guys it seems like everyone does alot of hatching in here, so how do you guys introduce your chicks to your other chickens once they are old enough? I have always had bad luck with that unless they were hatched by a broody in the same pin.

I've always brooded the chicks inside for a week, then moved them into a brooder with chicken wire walls, so the chicks are seen but can't be touched. After they are feathered out enough to not need artificial heat, they get booted out of the brooder into general population. Picking is to be expected, but by this time, the older hens are used to them enough to not be violent.

this is the firs ttime I had no post to catch up on reading. I guess everyone is busy taking care of fluffy buts...lol

I just got a pip in my last 3 eggs... hope at least one hatches to keep my lonely chick from last week company.

I generally keep them inside a week. Then they get moved outside to the garage to a 5x3 grow up pen with a red light that will be on at night. I open the garage in the day after the 5 th week once they are feathered mine go out to the grow up yard which is a 15 x25 pen with a small coop. it is bordered by 3 sides that are next to my main chicken area. They stay there till they are 2/3 the size of the other chickens. then I open the door up in the day so the can co mingle. After a week like that I stuff em in with the big kids.

I would say it is best that they are enclosed somewhere in the chicken yard so they can see each other a few weeks

i like this plan. I don't have a grow out pen for the middle school kids. just a small pen about3x3x8. it is attached to a grown up pen. I have a door that opens between the 2 and when the big girls go out during the day, I let the middle school kids into the big coop. The tiny ones stay in my house until they can go in the middle school pen. but I am a bit overlapping here and I might have to place another pen somewhere. oh well.. chicken math got me.

So how is everyone and their new babies doing?
