Who's setting with me Sept 1st-4th?

Do the double yolkers hatch? Wont 1 or both die?
I have read up on the subject for a while, most of the time they do not survive to hatch day and if they do you have to intervene at the right time to help pip, zip, and hatch. We'll just have to see what happens.

The girl who laid the developing double yolker laid another one! But that one will not go into the incubator, I'm already getting scolded (not publicly, privately via email) about one double going in, hate to see what would happen if I put two in! ha ha

Really can't wait for hatch day!

Really, I have tried, and I think it would be really neat if it worked. I mean you are giving it a chance at life rather than no life at all. I can't believe people would actually scold you like that. Have you seen the youtube video of the one lady who sucessful hatches a double yolker. I share that with alot of people but I'm not sure if I did with you.

I'm excited to see if it actually survives! I understand if it doesn't, I mean double yolkers are "rare"-ish and I know it's not "natural" to have twins, especially since two in a shell is kinda cramped and all, but hey it's an experiment I'd like to try (so it am) :) I've read up on the subject a lot, and since putting it in have read up even more! It's interesting topic to research

I just let people roll off when they get on their high horse about such things, I am not "torturing" anything, I have never hurt an animal in my life (what kind of vet would I be if I "enjoyed torturing animals"?)

Yep I watched it (and you shared it here about the time I put it in

), I like watching it and it just goes to show it CAN happen... It couldn't of happened if the lady didn't put it in and TRY. If mine comes to end up not surviving, it was a LEARNING experiment, that I enjoyed!

Thanks for the support :) I usually just ignore people that think it's their job to scold others so it was no biggie :) SO I say, to the scolding people:

When I assist my hatches, I chip away the shell and not cut the membrane. I keep warm water near me and I keep the membrane moist. Make sure you cut the umbilical cord on the abdomen. If you see blood, cover with warm cheesecloth or paper towel pressing to stop the bleeding for a minute. Put the chick back in the incubator.

You might have issues with legs and I've done well with splints. Good luck!

I have high hopes for your double yolker.

Next weeks the big week for most of us, the rest will follow.

I have not checked my eggs. I'm not going to. It doesn't smell, so all three will go to lockdown in 3-4 days. I haven't checked the date lately. Good luck!

I'm starting over soon! My last hatch, I only have 1 potential show(black). The other two are showing faults(splash in color). They were blue and now a blue splash. I rehomed all 13-14 of the others due to not having room to grow them out.

I smelt a faint smell coming from my incubator so I went off to see who the culprit was, and the last egg I smelled, Phew. Took it outside and dug a small hole to bury it and cracked it open.... A fine forming chick was inside with black fuzz starting to grow :-/ A pic is below (hope that doesn't offend or gross anyone out! . Not sure what happened

...

All the other eggs didn't smell so fingers crossed they go ok.
