Well, I candled my Silkie eggs a few minutes ago.....
Out of the 7 from the white pen she sent I have 1 still going.....had 2 quitters and 4 that never even developed. (I'm inclined to think maybe some issues in that pen...but that's just my thinking)
Out of the 1 from the B/B/S pen, O. It quit. (Btw, this was the pen I was hoping for more eggs from. I wish I would have specified that now, but didn't want to be pushy, figured I would get at least 3 or 4.)
Out of the 3 from the B/B/S/possibly partridge pen, 2 are still going. ( I am hoping and praying that if these make it, I end up with good strong coloring, not a bunch of leakage)
Out of the 2 from the black pen she sent BOTH still going
Out of the 4 from the buff pen she sent, they are ALL still going.
So, I now have 9 of the eggs going strong. Wish is better than none. Hopefully it will be worth the $45 I paid for 17 eggs in the long run. These are supposed to be from show quality lines. We will see, I guess. Y'all plz keep your fingers crossed for me. I have been trying to hatch out good quality Silkies going on the 3rd year now. I sure could use some good luck about now. I DO know one thing: IF I am able to build up a flock of SQ Silkies I will not try and get rich from egg sales. I will ship eggs for $10/dozen plus shipping. That's only around $25. Enough to cover the S&H and a few bucks for my efforts. Do y'all think that is too much? I would just like to make it to where us average people could afford to have some of these beautiful birds. It's not like anyone gets rich from showing, so why go into such debt over it?
