Too cute, One of my broody's just hatched out 5 chicks a week ago. That was my first time letting a hen hatch her own eggs so I was pretty excited, it's so cute how they follow mama around everywhere. And I agree about waiting to send them, I don't want to complain because she seems really nice, but there are a few other things that I didn't think were right. I'll incubate them and candle after 8 days, if there are 3 or less developing, I may complain. I realize shipping isn't totally her fault, but there are a few other things as well. It's funny how you are wanting more hens, I just had to give away another 15, I always have to keep just a few of the chicks I hatch each time. I'm thinking of making a separate pen for my roosters. The roosters are my favorite, they are soo friendly and pretty, but if you keep too many, they are hard on the hens, so I think separating them out together because technically I'm low on hens again, but feed is just too much money for that many chickens and I don't want to give up my roosters.

Good luck with your hatch! I'm sure all will be ok. I know the question was for Nicole01 but I set 12 brown/green/dark brown eggs from my hens and my 2 mutt roos.

I went ahead a set my possible double yoker. we'll see what comes of it

I saw the picture of yours, I love the different colors, mine are always the same boring light brown color. What breeds are you hens?

I don't have any roosters yet. If I do keep one it's only going to be 1 and he'll have about 11-13 hens. I'm not sure how many fowl in all I'm keeping yet.

I love my roosters to death! In fact my first one would jump into my lap and follow me around like a dog. He was the best though he passed away this spring. I'm so anxious about my eggs. I keep checking the tracking number, even though I know it's not going to get anwhere until tomorrow.

My new girls are two Golden Comets (the darker brown are theirs), a tiny easter egger (I didn't collect any of her eggs for hatching), and I got 1 barred rock out of the batch of roos we got (she laid the double yoker I found). My older hens include two Easter Eggers (green eggs in the incubator are theirs), 1 barred rock, and 1 Road Island Red. 1 of my older hens has started laying regular again, either my Barred rock or road island Red hen (the light brown eggs).I'm leaning toward all those light brown eggs coming from my older barred rock (Joanna) because my dear Sara (rir) has been acting like she had some sort of stroke or something (???). One morning a week or so ago I found her with one eye lid droopy and I have no clue what happened... She hangs by herself mostly where as she used to hang with her best friend Joanna (old BR)... She used to dislike me holding her but now she seems comforted if I will just cuddle her like a baby (hand supporting her belly and just rocking her)... Something definitely happened by I am clueless as to what. She will be 3 in February so it's not like she is ancient or something....

I'm so sorry to hear about your hen.. I lost my speckled Sussex this past summer to a coyote. It made me so sick to my stomach losing her. I had hope she had gotten away and she'd be back, but she never returned.. I hope your hen makes a full recovery.

Oh thats sad, I hope she gets back up to speed. Are you going to try to hatch the double yolker?

. I lost my speckled Sussex this past summer to a coyote. It made me so sick to my stomach losing her. I had hope she had gotten away and she'd be back, but she never returned.

I'm so sorry about your lost to a coyote It always sucks loosing them

I lost a duck and a guinea a few weeks apart to unknown causes (found them in the coop, they had passed in their sleep) a few months ago, it's always hard to find them. Sometimes I dread looking into the coop at my nightly check and to greet my babies in the morning... Ever since my girl has had her behavior change/droopy eye I've been dreading looking in every morning, but thankfully she has always greeted me with her happy chicken noises.

yep I set my possible double yolker in the incubator. fingers crossed it works out, i know if it develops I'll have to help the second chick make a pip and probably help both out the shell but I'm willing to do so. I know that many people frown upon setting double yolks butttt I think it's a cool experiment and those kinds of stuff interest me (I'm going to college to be a vet, who could blame me for my curiosity? ha ha)

Ok so I know it is early and I shouldn't, but I could no longer contain myself and grabbed a green egg and a brown egg to candle. Both had a tiny little red dot moving in the center of the yolk(heart maybe??). jeez I'm so excited. I promised them I would leave them alone (except to turn) until I candle all of them at about day 7.... I can't wait until lock down/hatch day!
