Who's setting with me Sept 1st-4th?

I'm in! I set 18 eggs on 9/1 from the August mystery swap. I have no idea as to what they are!

On August 26th I set three of my own: 2 buckeye and 1 Cuckoo Marans/Blue Wheaten Ameraucana mix egg. I found the Marans egg outside in the bushes and don't know how long it'd been there so we'll see if anything happens with it.
How exciting! I'd love a mystery swap! Good luck and have fun guess which breed. It will be interesting if the EE/maran is female to see what egg color comes out! How neat!

I don't really know. I use an egg turner, which keeps them upright and turns side to side. It's very nice to have.
I candled today and the first two have nothing.

. I'll be mad if they are infertile since I paid a lot of money for them online. Some look weird inside, but I had that happen last time and chicks hatched.
I'd keep them in there and see what happens. I try not to candle as much. Otherwise, I'll be too obsessive. The quitter I could not see inside, but the egg smelled bad and I took it out. It was easy to pinpoint the quitter. I'm glad it didn't explode, it would of if I left it in.
Oh yes, the first time I found out about rotten eggs. I had no idea there were such things for a while, but on my third hatch, I had just that. I didn't realize the smell was a bad thing, I thought whatever, it's probably normal and on day 19 I was sitting on my bed when I heard a bang, I look in my incuabator and there is a broken egg and disgusting rotten egg junk all over the incubator and eggs. I quick washed each egg and wiped down the incubator as best as I could. Thank god it was still a sucessful hatch but that was a horrible mess to clean up.

The Marans/Blue Wheaten Ameraucana mix would be a cool cross, hopefully that one hatches! And the mystery swap sounds neat, I've never heard of anything like that. What color are the eggs? I know a few people have hatched fertile eggs from a store, I think it would be cool to hatch out mystery eggs like that.

nicole01.... i have finally found another person who has the farm innovator 4200 incubator. keep me posted as to how it works for you. i've only used it 1 round and now i'm in process of my 2nd: some speckled sussex due about the 14th of sept. after this, i have 10 more speckled sussex eggs and 16 sebrights- 8 silver and 8 golden. how's the hydrometer workin on yours? i dont know if i trust it and the built in thermometer.

thanks,

don

Oh duh, I meant ameraucana/maran mix. I have both EE's and Ameraucana's. I'm hatching Ameraucana's right now.

Oh wow! That would fill every spot in my incubator! Good luck. I do believe it's day one. However, my last staggered hatch both hatched on day 20 when I counted this way.

I believe the hydrometer is accurate, I bought a small one and installed it on the side of the lid. The lid thermometer is off. It's lower then what the actual temp is, that's why they send the extra glass bulb thermometer to set on top of your eggs. I emailed them about it and about making liners that fit the incubator. They returned my email quickly and stated that they were aware the lid thermometer was not accurate and sent an additional one. Honestly, I'd keep an extra hydrometer in there just in case it breaks down. I'm obsessive that way.

I had a very high hatch rate. Only 2 did not pip. One was infertile and the other was a quitter. I had 2 chicks pip upside down and they died. The rest lived! I believe that's a high hatch rate.:)

I love this incubator. I bought a liner(little giant), but had to cut it to size. It sure was a lifesaver during cleanup.

mrheinz77 is running the September swap, it's not a mystery swap this month, but it is lots of fun and a cheap way to get new eggs. Go look him up and join the thread!

I got green and brown eggs of various shades...it's exciting!!
