Lost all three turkey chicks. Almost saved the last one. If I hadn't waited quite so long to try.... Oh well, next hatch 19 days. Win some lose some.

eschwaderer, nice set-up! We did ours in a Little Giant on a card table in the spare bedroom. It was hard for the kids to watch without shaking the table and rattling the eggs!

walkswithdog, so sorry about the turkeys. Were they not able to get out of the shells?

They seemed to have quit just prior, the yolk sack on two was about half absorbed on the third less so. They seemed ... thin. These were a pullets first eggs so maybe there is something there. They were pretty tightly in there. It's sad but first anything is sort of no guarantees. The one that was closest was cute and so close. You want to somehow breathe life into it it's so close. I never like that part but looking lets me know where we were,w hen they quit and maybe things to look for next time.

Still hatching bunches of other stuff. Thanks for the thoughts, support helps.

Edited to add the cracked egg I waxed and brought in still seems to be going. He's swimming around in there. He went in on the 17th... I think that makes him a ninth baby... I have to go look it up now he's surviving.

I also wanted to add that the newer set of eggs are MUCH thicker and tougher to candle, so maybe thinness and possible infiltration played a part in the first sets death.

I had been staying away from this thread until today, I wanted to share a Schultz miracle with you all.
Friday was day 21 and our power went out for 7 1/2 hours

. We then couldn't get the bator up to temp and feared the worst. We have both been really upset with this whole thing and decided to give the eggs until Sunday, then candle them. So yesterday afternoon, we candled all of the eggs. We have a staggered hatch going. There were a lot of quitters

and the eggs that were at day 21 on Friday all looked dead. I set the eggs on the counter and started filling a plastic bag with the eggs, just as I was about to tie it up, I thought I heard a peep. Mind you we have parrots and other chicks in a nursery so I thought it was one of them and started to tie the bag up again, I heard 2 tiny peeps. I looked in the bag and listened again and one of the eggs was peeping like crazy. I ran to the nursery to get DH to help me sort thru the eggs to find the baby and get it back in the bator. Not more than and hour later and it pipped!!!

Well let me tell you yesterday was long and the evening was even longer. The chick was having a hard time getting out, at the end she was actually stuck!

So we made the decision to help, after all this poor thing lived thru, I wanted to make sure this little life had a chance. We carefully and safely got her out, yolk was fully absorbed, no blood, all was well with the world

This morning she is fully dry and fluffed and she is the most beautiful blueish silver I have ever seen.

She is now in with the ones that hatched Wednesday and Thursday. Noone is picking on her, they are all snuggling with her and showing her the ropes!

I had one die in the shell before it finished getting out. Then I have one working on getting out and it is a day late. I checked 5 of the eggs that didn't hatch and 4 had chicks that died mid way and one not fertile. I was about to remove the remaining eggs last night then heard peeping out of one. So I put them all back. I had to take my 3 chicks out of the bator becuase they where trampling the new hatched one. They aredoing well so far. I discovered lst night that one had shell stuck to hits throut. It wasn't doing well so I took it out to check it out and there it was. I got if off with a little warm water and work and it is doing fine today. A little unbalanced but fine other words. The one taht hatched friday is eating. I will post pictures later. Have an appt now to go to.

Schultz, thanks for sharing the miracles. I do love reading those and I have three chicks a week old in the brooder who had to be helped out and made it. So I know the whole thing is always a gamble, you win here, lose there but in the end it's all good.
