who's the predator?

I live in upstate NY, weather is just starting to break here. We have a lot of fox, coyote, weasels, and even bobcats had been spotted here.

Welcome fellow upstate NY''er.
Sorry about your BR.
So hard to tell what critter did the deed. I've been seen a few of fox, coyote lately, but I've seen more skunks than anything. Get a trail camera and set it up near the coop/run. Whatever took the chicken will probably be back and you'll have it on camera.

I'm not experienced at all. I've only had chickens for 6 weeks. :p I have 6. How many do you have?
We only have 4 young hens. We bought them at the local feedstore. They have been good layers from day one. We got 3 eggs yesterday. Two beige and one greenish one. They make wonderful breakfast sandwiches! And it's so wonderful to be able to cook with fresh eggs.

When we bought them, we thought we were getting a Rhode Island Red, 2 Wyandottes (one silver lace and one gold lace), and then the mystery hen. Well now it appears the RIR is really an EE(Easter Egger) and she's laying a pale greenish/bluish egg every 2 or 3 days. She's very sweet. I had to hold her while hubby removed a leg band that was too tight and causing her to limp. She let us know it hurt, but she hid her head under my arm and snuggled with me. Never pecked at me once. It was like she knew we were trying to help her.

Wow, sounds like a friendly hen!

How many chickens do you have? And how long have you had chickens? They really are so sweet and relaxing to watch walking around.
currently im down to 1 rooster and 5 girls.. lowest I've been since I've started. typically I have a flock of around 15. Absolutely fell in love with them free ranging and hanging out in the Adirondack chairs. Cool pets with great benefits. Sometimes they get too comfortable and come knocking on my sliding glass door.
