Why am i getting small eggs?

Mt girls have started laying smaller than usual eggs since I stopped much of their freeranging.

I can't wait until I've finished the new yard improvements and coop so I can let them out again without having to worry about them getting injured or demolishing my presently unprotected gardens.

I'm still a little confused. Of course you don't expect your silkies to lay eggs the same size as your standard hens, right?

We have a flock of bantams, too. Our d'Uccles lay eggs that weigh around 35 grams. We have one Serama mix hen who lays eggs of this size, too, but all her sisters lay smaller eggs, generally around 26 or 27 grams.

If you have more than one Silkie, I suppose it's possible that different birds laid those small eggs, in which case it just might be what's normal for each hen.

Genetics, which can vary within the same breed.

My RIRs lay large eggs but my friend's RIRs lay jumbo eggs. My BR lays jumbo eggs. My Silkie lays small eggs. My Polish Bantams lay even smaller eggs, like pigeon size. As long as they are healthy, just accept who they are.

The Silkie however, pops out full size poop.
