..and "?tag=backy-20" means what.... in regular laymans english?
Cross site tracking. Amazon can see where the traffic came from and follow it through to point of purchase. They can see how many looky-loos came from here and stop on a certain page. Basically it’s painting all the traffic from BYC a specific color and tracking it through Amazon’s platform.

In a different life I’d look at these statistics and find bottle necks on the website. If people started dropping at a certain point, there were only a handful of reasons. Clicks - too many and people get fed up. 3 is magic 4 works. 5 is deminishing returns. Content - Nothing there to reassure or inform they are where they need to be. Broken links - self explanatory

It appears to be the affiliate tag for BYC.
Yup!! Correct!

So if I want to buy something from Amazon (I have several things in my cart),
I should get there by clicking an Amazon link on BYC and some pennies will automatically get slipped into the coffers here?
That's sweet of you, but we don't want peeps to go out of there way / change their regular habits when using BYC. If you happen to come from BYC when you're buying something, cool. If not, no worries! It's more important to me that you have a simple / easy browsing experience than anything :)
