Why are Black Copper Marans Such a most wanted chicken

Where can a person get some of these chicks and why are they so sought after? Who is the better blood lines?

Are you wanting them because they are so sought after or are you wanting them because you like the breed characteristics? If you are wanting them just because everyone else does, you'll likely be disappointed, unless you do some research. Theres a lot of information on this web site about marans, a little research will get you more information than you can imagine.

One thing that I have found is that maybe there eggs are the darkest brown egg out there and what else I'm not sure?

I am sure they are very nice chickens and all that, but not necessarily proportionate to their current fad status. Things come, things go.

Probably first & foremost they are desirable because of their egg colour. However they have great personalities. Perhaps not the most friendly chicken going but vigorous & great fun to watch.

Where can you get them? Good Breeders are all over, you can look online at the Marans yahoo groups, and ask, but alot of the folks there have lengthy waiting lists, sometimes a year long, and the eggs or chicks are pricey...but you want Better Blood lines....

I think they are popular because of the egg color and they are prized eggs by top chefs around the world.

You can get some chicks from tgcole on here. Just PM him and he will fix you right up. I ordered 12 from him and he sent me 14. He has a very good line of chicks and I was very impressed with them and him as well.

I had my heart set on some 'chocolate' egg colors... I did lots of research on the breed and chose Black Copper because I LOVED the rooster.. I did not like the price of them--but I hate that the breeders are soooo backed up with their egg/chick/hen orders that you have to wait a yr. to get something nice....So, I decided to forgo the Marans for a while to see if the market becomes ''flooded with them" and the 'flavor of the month' people move on..

Has to be egg color as they have not yet been excepted by the APA. A standard has been set and they are being presented to the APA in June in hopes they will be accepted. A french standard has been made and 1 thing I noticed is the standard says 5 points on the comb so if they do get accepted most peoples stock will not be standard since most of what I have seen look like they have saw blades for combs.
