I have had many Coturnix quails over the past years and they have been easier to tame than other species of quail (bobwhites, mountain, valley, or chukars). Has anybody else experienced this? Is it because Coturnix have been domesticated for a long time?

You have it. Coturnix have been domesticated since the 11th century in Japan. That means that they have been bred for us for a very long time.

Other quail are not really domesticated at all, so they are naturally less trusting of humans. They are also prey animals, which also makes them harder to tame.
