Why are hatching eggs so expensive

berryn - those prices sound fair to me, especially if it is a breeder with good quality birds. There are lots of eggs for sale in BST on this forum, you just have to look around and look at pictures to see if it's what you're looking for. Good luck with your hatch.

eggs seem very fair on this site, i bought 16 eggs from dipsy for 18.00 shipped.. that is great and by far cheapest i have seen..... you could go to ebay or ussc and pay between 30-60.00 a dozen for serama eggs, i sell for around 20.00 a doz. the cost of the malaysan serama pairs and trio's are around $200-$400+ depending on who you buy birds from. not to mention , most of the time you won't sell eggs off a pair that is less than a year old,, if you do it right and honest, so there is a year of housing cost and feed, and culling bird after bird that is not up to snuff.. sounds like everyone on this site is pretty fair to me...

there are alot of good honest folks on ebay, and some crooks, but no i don't think shipping on 6 eggs should be 10-11.00 either. flat rate anywhere in lower 48 states is 8.95 and 65 cents for the d/c. it is useless to insure eggs . and most honest folks will help you out with more eggs if something major happened to yours, i know i would... most places within 4-5 states of your location would most of the time only be 5.00-6.00 range priority..

A scammers dream really...(hope none of them are into chickens, lol!)
No guarentee they will hatch, your on your own, nothing you can do to seller if they don't hatch, buyer beware type thing.

I would say it boils down to supply and demand. It sets the cost of everything. If you got it and someone wants it, what is that person willing to pay for it? On the other end if you have to much of something you are willling to just about give it away to anyone who will take it.
