Why are heritage breeds impossible to find?

I live in a small town in southern Manitoba and there is a heritage chicken breeder 25 minutes away.... I found her hens way to delicate and expensive. I like pure breeds but heritage breeds aren’t for me . The Icelandic’s almost made be burn down my coop and quit!!
Pure breeds are heritage breeds. Pure breeds are much cheaper than expensive land races, which are a bit of a fad anyways. The definition of a heritage breed is a pure breed of poultry, with a deep history in the United States, and disease and weather resistance, at least according to the Livestock Conservacy. https://livestockconservancy.org/index.php/heritage
Icelandics don't seem to fall in any part of the description of heritage breeds to me.

Hi!,
Have you looked for Chanteclers in Manitoba? There is a Breed Club "Chantecler Fanciers International" website.. Plus there are several Chantecler threads here on BYC. Go to the "General Breeds Discussion Forum " and look at the top listing. It is B"reed Discussion" threads. Click on it and scroll down the breed names until you find them. Lots of Breeders in Canada as the Chantecler is the national chicken of Canada.
Best,

I understand your frustration my first Sumatra from Meyer's lacked the breeds "Heat tolerance" but was pretty well balanced towards the breed SOP otherwise. My second flock from Cackle's are just plain ugly towards the SOP but do better in the heat. I had spent countless weeks trying to source up some good Malay's but couldn't find anything that looked right in my eyes.
