Why are my chicks perching?

I got home from work about a half hour ago and it's raining and all 4 of my chicks were perching side by side outside on the fence outside...why would they do that?

Its there instinct nothing to worry about... I would bring them inside if i were you.

chickens perch because its an instinct, to get up and away from danger irregardless of the weather. you will need to put them back in their house. sometimes after a few weeks they will learn to go into their house but sometimes you cant teach them otherwise ( my mother has chickens that she gave up on moving because they sleep 6 metres up in the tree wind, rain snow etc.) however its also possible that they don't feel safe in their house, a predator may have been in there and may still be in there so that should also be checked out

I bet it was very warm and humid about dark making them delay going in and the clouds made it get dark very quickly making so they did not want to go into your dark coop. Increase ventilation and make so more natural light comes in as the sun goes down.
